Laser Dermatology Official Training Site for Trainee Dermatologists

In order to become a specialist dermatologist (a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists) doctors must study and train for a further 2-3 years before entering the dermatology training programme. This involves another 4 years of study and training to have the experience, and expertise to be recognised by the government as a skin specialist. Traditionally trainee dermatologists have spent all their time in hospital out-patient departments.

In 2007 Laser Dermatology was trialled as a clinical training site for student dermatologists. The variety of lasers including the Candela GentleLASETM: Gemini TM long pulsed YAG, Ellipse FlexTM intense pulsed light (IPL) Wavelength SinonTM Ruby Laser, Medlite TM Q-switched YAG laser, Candela PerfectaTM pulsed dye laser, Affirm TM fractionated laser offer the trainees a extensive and intensive training in lasers in dermatology. Similarly the broad range of cosmetic procedures, including filler injections, muscle relaxant injections and leg vein sclerotherapy make Laser Dermatology an outstanding training post for skin specialists.

Laser Dermatology is now in its 3rd year of training student dermatologists and is proud that the Australasian College of Dermatologists recognises Laser Dermatology as a centre of excellence in laser and cosmetic dermatology.
